John 19

Today we are reading John 19. In this chapter we read about the conclusion of Jesus’ trial, His Crucifixion and death and His burial.“After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the Scripture), “I thirst.” A jar full of sour wine stood there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth. When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.”
‭‭John‬ ‭19:28-30‬ ‭ESV‬‬ Death seems to be such a minimal event in comparison to the life a person lives. Bodily functions slow. Breathing stops. The heart stops beating. That’s it. It is the complete defeat of our mortality. With Jesus, though, it is different. His death is the payment for the sins of every human being. When He says, “It is finished”, our unpayable debt is paid in full. So, for those who believe, our death becomes a doorway to paradise. No more defeat of mortality but the reality of immortality. May God bless you with an eternal perspective on all things—even death!  Pastor Tim
