Important End of the Year 2021 Information
Donors must deliver or mail (postmark) checks on or before December 31 in order to claim a charitable deduction for 2021. Checks that are placed in the church offering during the first worship service of 2022 will not qualify for a charitable contribution deduction in 2021 even if the check was written in 2021. However, checks that are written, mailed, and postmarked in 2021 will be deductible in 2021 even if they are not received by a church until 2022. This same principal applies for electronic giving. Please remember electronic transactions take more than 1 day to process, sometimes up to a week.
God Wants Our Hearts
Jesus makes the claim in Matthew 6:21 that our hearts are unavoidably connected to our money. God doesn’t need our money, but he wants our hearts and so he invites us to connect our money to Him through giving. Giving allows us to demonstrate to God that He is more important to us than material things and that our hearts belong to Him. It’s easy and quick to give online whether it’s a one time gift or a recurring gift. There is no better investment you can make with your giving than the local church!
What is the Tithe?
For Christians, tithing (a word meaning ‘tenth’) is the starting point. Tithing is giving the first 10% of our income back to the local church. If you call Gloria Dei your home, we encourage you to give generously, knowing that your money is being used to support the mission of Jesus Christ – both here in central Iowa and around the world.
