2023 End of Year Giving Information

Important End of the Year 2023 Information

Check contributions must be delivered or postmarked on or before December 31 in order to claim a charitable deduction for 2023. Checks that are placed in the church offering during the first worship service of 2024 will not qualify for a charitable contribution deduction in 2023 even if the check was written in 2023. However, checks that are written, mailed, and postmarked in 2023 will be deductible in 2023 even if they are not received by a church until 2024. This same principle applies for electronic giving. If the electronic donation is submitted and recognized by Subsplash giving in 2023 the member will indeed receive the contribution credit in 2023. Please remember electronic transactions take more than 1 day to process, sometimes up to a week so please plan accordingly.

God Wants Our Hearts

Jesus makes the claim in Matthew 6:21 that our hearts are unavoidably connected to our money.  God doesn’t need our money, but he wants our hearts and so he invites us to connect our money to Him through giving.  Giving allows us to demonstrate to God that He is more important to us than material things and that our hearts belong to Him.  It’s easy and quick to give online whether it’s a one time gift or a recurring gift.  There is no better investment you can make with your giving than the local church!

What is the Tithe?

For Christians, tithing (a word meaning ‘tenth’) is the starting point. Tithing is giving the first 10% of our income back to the local church. If you call Gloria Dei your home, we encourage you to give generously, knowing that your money is being used to support the mission of Jesus Christ – both here in central Iowa and around the world.
