John 18

Today we are reading John 18. In this chapter we read about Jesus being arrested and the beginning of His trial. We will focus on His response to Governor Pilate. “So Pilate entered his headquarters again and called Jesus and said to him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” Jesus answered, “Do you say this of your own accord, or did others say it to you about me?” Pilate answered, “Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered you over to me. What have you done?” Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.”” John‬ ‭18:33-36‬ ‭ESV‬‬ What are the implications of Jesus’ statement, “My kingdom is not of this world.”? In this world there is a constant power struggle. People struggle and strive to obtain things like wealth and power. Jesus is not concerned about that struggle. His battle is not with flesh and blood but with the devil and his servants. In Jesus’ name we have a victory over sin, death and the devil. May God guide you away from the struggles and pursuits of this world and to focus on things that have eternal significance. Pastor Tim
