Isaiah 8

Today we are reading Isaiah 8. In this chapter we read about the coming Assyrian army that will come like a flood and inundate the land. “”Because this people has refused the waters of Shiloah that flow gently, and rejoice over Rezin and the son of Remaliah, therefore, behold, the Lord is bringing up against them the waters of the River, mighty and many, the king of Assyria and all his glory. And it will rise over all its channels and go over all its banks, and it will sweep on into Judah, it will overflow and pass on, reaching even to the neck, and its outspread wings will fill the breadth of your land, O Immanuel.””
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭8:6-8‬ ‭ESV‬‬ God is punishing His people through the army of Assyria. He is allowing a foreign power to come in and overwhelm the land and all who dwell there. Today, the land of Israel is free from foreign domination. The threat of the ancient Assyrians has subsided but the memory of their cruelty is remembered. What lessons can we learn from this history? Who are the rebellious ones today? Who are the Assyrians that God might use to punish us? What is the point of God’s punishment? May God give us wisdom as we live our lives for Him! Pastor Tim
