Today we are reading 1 Timothy 5. In this chapter we read about various instructions for the church. Among these instructions we read, “Do not rebuke an older man but encourage him as you would a father, younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, younger women as sisters, in all purity.”
1 Timothy 5:1-2 ESV Notice the gentle, pastoral approach of Paul. He calls us to consider those we speak to as dear family members—fathers, brothers, mothers and sisters. How does such thinking blunt your criticism? When is it okay to be hurtful with your words? When did Jesus act like a bully? Our faith governs even our words. Jesus is Lord even of the conversations we have at home and at work. May God bless you to use your words to brighten someone’s day and inspire them in their faith! Pastor Tim
