Today we are reading Luke 3. In this chapter we read about the ministry and message of John the Baptist. The keyword for this chapter is “poi-e-o”. The definition is “to make, to do”. “And the crowds asked him, “What then shall we do?”” Luke 3:10 ESV In response to the powerful message of John, crowds were coming to him and asking this question: “what must we do?” When confronted with our sin our human nature immediately goes to the idea that we must do something to atone for our sins. The bad news is that what we must do is die for our sins because that is the payment that is due. The good news is that Jesus did our “must do”. Jesus died in our place for our sins on the cross. Now, His love in us compels us to do things which please Him and bless our neighbors. What we must do is love Him and love those around us—not to earn heaven but to thank God from whom all blessings flow! Pastor Tim
