John 10

Today we are reading John 10. In this chapter we read about about Jesus describing His role as the Messiah. The keyword for this chapter is “poi-mayn”. The definition is “shepherd, the presiding leader, the pastor”. “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me,” John‬ ‭10:11, 14‬ ‭ESV‬‬ As Christians we are familiar with our spiritual leaders being referred to as shepherds. The tasks of the shepherd are: to watch for enemies trying to attack the sheep, to defend the sheep from attackers, to heal the wounded and sick sheep, to find and save the lost or trapped sheep, and to love them. Which of these tasks of the shepherd are most comforting and reassuring to you? Jesus is the good shepherd and does all of these tasks perfectly. We, as followers of Jesus, are undershepherds serving under Jesus. Who are the sheep that Jesus has called you to care for? May you always proudly proclaim that the Lord Jesus is my shepherd!
