Today we are reading 2 Kings 22. In this chapter we read about King Josiah and the Book of the Law that was found in the Temple. “Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jedidah the daughter of Adaiah of Bozkath. And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and walked in all the way of David his father, and he did not turn aside to the right or to the left. And Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the secretary, “I have found the Book of the Law in the house of the Lord.” And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it. And Shaphan the secretary came to the king, and reported to the king, “Your servants have emptied out the money that was found in the house and have delivered it into the hand of the workmen who have the oversight of the house of the Lord.” Then Shaphan the secretary told the king, “Hilkiah the priest has given me a book.” And Shaphan read it before the king. When the king heard the words of the Book of the Law, he tore his clothes.” 2 Kings 22:1-2, 8-11 It is striking to learn that the king did not know the word of God. He was so convicted by what was in the book that he tore his clothes in grief. How many people in our lives are unfamiliar with the word of God? How will they hear? Who will tell them? Without God’s word they don’t know Jesus. May God bless us to eagerly teach our families, friends and neighbors. Pastor Tim
