Today we are reading 1 Samuel 11. In this chapter we read about God using Saul to defeat the invading Ammonites. “And the Spirit of God rushed upon Saul when he heard these words, and his anger was greatly kindled. Then Samuel said to the people, “Come, let us go to Gilgal and there renew the kingdom.” So all the people went to Gilgal, and there they made Saul king before the Lord in Gilgal. There they sacrificed peace offerings before the Lord, and there Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced greatly.”
1 Samuel 11:6, 14-15 ESV The people of Israel were facing defeat at the hands of a cruel enemy. By the Holy Spirit, Saul rose up and gathered the Israelites to defend their country. After the victory, Saul refrained from punishing those who opposed his kingship. Instead, Samuel called for a day of national renewal to establish Saul as king. How does this story speak into our situation? What would national renewal look like for us? Notice the teamwork of Saul and Samuel. Great leaders are only great by God’s blessing. May God speak powerfully to our leaders. Pastor Tim
