Today we are reading 1 John 4. In this chapter we read about how Jesus paid the debt of our sin.” The keyword for this chapter is “hi-las-mos”. The definition is “satisfaction, propitiation”. “In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”
1 John 4:10 ESV The basic idea is that Jesus completely satisfied the payment required for our sin. He did that when He died for us on the cross. Our Heavenly Father was satisfied that our sins were paid in full. We are debt-free when it comes to our sin as long as we access that satisfaction through repentance.
