Today we are reading Zechariah 4. In this chapter we read about another vision given to Zechariah involving a visit from an angel.“Then the angel who talked with me answered and said to me, “Do you not know what these are?” I said, “No, my lord.” Then he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts.” Zechariah 4:5-6 ESV The vision Zechariah sees includes symbolic objects. The main point seems to be “Not by might, not by power, but by my Spirit says the Lord of Hosts.” In other words, do not focus on using your own power or strength but trust in God and the working of the Holy Spirit. When are you most tempted to rely on yourself? When do you feel the need to trust in God? How is trusting in God better? With our virus challenges we are painfully aware of our own limitations. God’s answer to our anxious thoughts is the same as His answer to Zechariah—not by (our) might, not by (our) power, by by God’s Spirit, we will thrive in this time of temporary trouble. May God bless you today and every day by filling you with the Holy Spirit. Pastor Tim
