Romans 5

Today we are reading Romans 5. In this chapter we read about Paul describing our condition prior to our salvation.  The keyword for this chapter is “as-the-nays”.  The definition is “weak or sick”.  “For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.” Romans‬ ‭5:6 This is the same word used in the Gospels to describe the sick ones who were brought out to Jesus for healing.  While you and I were sick with sin, while you and were weak and powerless, Jesus died for us.  I remember a long time ago when my four year old daughter was sick with a high fever…I was a new dad having just married my wife Kim and adopted her two young daughters.  The younger one was very sick and I was scared. I drove an hour one way to the nearest pharmacy for medicine only to find our insurance was not yet in the computer. Anxious and discouraged I drove home without the medicine she needed. A father’s desperate prayers were answered and the fever broke. I remember exactly how powerless I felt. But God is not powerless. Ever. Jesus died on the cross for our sins—our illness—and now offers us a complete cure. As a gift. May you rejoice that Jesus died for you while you were still weak!  Pastor Tim‬
