Today we are reading Romans 4. In this chapter Paul spends a lot of time delineating the concept that we are not saved by works. The keyword for this chapter is “lo-gid-zo-mai”. The definition is, “to reckon to one’s account. In the language of an accountant the word means “to enter in the account book””. “However, to the one who does not work but trusts God who justifies the ungodly, their faith is credited as righteousness.” Romans 4:5 The idea is that no matter how many works we may do, we cannot do enough to balance our account with God. The debt of our sin is unpayable to us. Only Jesus can pay the unpayable debt with his own precious body and blood. By faith in Jesus the righteousness He purchased for us is credited to our account. Have you ever had someone pay your bill for you? Have you ever paid someone else’s debt? May God bless you to understand His generosity toward you. Pastor Tim
