Today we are reading Revelation 20. In this chapter we read about the Thousand Years and events surrounding them. The keyword for this chapter is “lim-nay”. The definition is “lake”. “and the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.” Revelation 20:10, 14-15 ESV When I read these words I think of molten lava. The eternal punishment of God is a horrible unending torment. We experience temporary suffering here in this life, but the experience of unbelievers is much worse and lasts forever. The lake of fire is an awful picture. I think of the Sea of Galilee on which Jesus walked and where Jesus calmed the storm. For all who believe, Jesus has calmed the fears and effects of the lake of fire. We are saved in Jesus’ name! Pastor Tim
