Revelation 18

Today we are reading Revelation 18. In this chapter we read about the complete and rapid destruction of “Babylon the Great”. “Then a mighty angel picked up a boulder the size of a large millstone and threw it into the sea, and said: “With such violence the great city of Babylon will be thrown down, never to be found again. The music of harpists and musicians, pipers and trumpeters, will never be heard in you again. No worker of any trade will ever be found in you again. The sound of a millstone will never be heard in you again. The light of a lamp will never shine in you again. The voice of bridegroom and bride will never be heard in you again. Your merchants were the world’s important people. By your magic spell all the nations were led astray.” Revelation‬ ‭18:21-23‬ ‭NIV‬‬ In the time of John, Babylon the Great was thought to be Rome. The destruction of this city, according to this chapter, is so complete that no joyful or prosperous events will ever happen there again. There are numerous ancient cities that are nothing more today than a mound of debris. While I don’t think all of these places are referred to by this passage, they are an example of what happened to Babylon the Great. All the enemies of God will meet a similar fate. God sees everything. The guilty will be held accountable. How can we endure and even thrive during these times? Staying faithful to God and His word. May God strengthen you against the wickedness of the days. Pastor Tim
