Today we are reading Psalm 51. In this psalm we read about David’s repentance. “Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin! For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.” Psalm 51:1-3, 10-12 ESV As King, David’s sin was especially prominent and well-known. His repentance needed to exceed his sin. This psalm of repentance is used frequently in traditional liturgies. How does it speak to your heart? When have you agonized over the ruin of your sin? How did God bring you through that time? God sees your heart and knows the sincerity of your remorse. He forgives you completely in Jesus’ name. May God restore the joy of your salvation! Pastor Tim
