Today we are reading Psalm 48. In this psalm we read about the City of God.“Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised in the city of our God! His holy mountain, beautiful in elevation, is the joy of all the earth, Mount Zion, in the far north, the city of the great King. Within her citadels God has made himself known as a fortress. For behold, the kings assembled; they came on together. As soon as they saw it, they were astounded; they were in panic; they took to flight.” Psalm 48:1-5 ESV What is the most magnificent city you have visited? Why was it impressive to you? In the days of the psalm writer a city was also a fortress and a visible demonstration of power and glory. When describing the City of God, the psalmist uses imagery familiar to the readers and extremely impressive. He calls the place The City of the Great King. Enemies run away when they see the city. The message is clear—all our enemies will run in fear at the sight of the glory and power of God! May you be comforted and inspired by our Great King! Pastor Tim
