Today we are reading Proverbs 18. In this proverb we read about the importance of being careful with our words. “A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion. A fool’s lips walk into a fight, and his mouth invites a beating. A fool’s mouth is his ruin, and his lips are a snare to his soul. Before destruction a man’s heart is haughty, but humility comes before honor. If one gives an answer before he hears, it is his folly and shame. From the fruit of a man’s mouth his stomach is satisfied; he is satisfied by the yield of his lips. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.” Proverbs 18:2, 6-7, 12-13, 20-21 ESV It is clear that we can easily cause ourselves trouble by speaking. Is there someone you quarrel with? Is there someone who is angry at you for something you said? Are you holding a grudge against someone who hurt your feelings? Ask God to guard your lips and help you to speak only words that give hope and encouragement. Reconcile with those you have wronged. Pastor Tim
