Philippians 3

Today we are reading Philippians 3. In this chapter we read how Paul compares material wealth and worldly status to knowing Jesus. The keyword for this chapter is “zay-mi-a”. The definition is “loss. Used for a loss at Sea and in the papyri for a commercial or business loss.” “But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ” Philippians‬ ‭3:7-8‬ ‭ESV‬‬ The point Paul is making is clear, all the material wealth and status are completely valueless compared to knowing Jesus. How does this truth impact your priorities? How does this truth speak to the need of everyone to know Jesus? Who have you spoken the Gospel to recently? May God inspire you to freely give away Jesus to everyone you meet! Pastor Tim
