Nahum 1

Today we are reading Nahum 1. In this chapter Nahum, whose name means comforter, describes how the Assyrians will be destroyed by their own enemy, Babylon. “The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him. But with an overflowing flood he will make a complete end of the adversaries, and will pursue his enemies into darkness.”
‭‭Nahum‬ ‭1:7-8‬ ‭ESV‬‬ Israel was being punished by God for their rebellion and worship of false gods. God sent the Assyrians, a very powerful nation, to punish the Israelites. In this chapter, we read about how God is now punishing the Assyrians by the powerful Babylonian armies. What appears to be motivated by greed and violence is in fact used by God for His purpose. When have you experienced God working through painful and difficult times? Did God cause the pain or did He simply use the pain to get your attention? What was the good purpose of God? How does this give you hope in our current circumstances? May God speak words of peace and comfort to your heart today. Pastor Tim
