Series: The Thing Behind the Thing

Pastor A: Pastor Joe Meyer

Pastor B: Pastor Ben Johnson

Message Summary:

Today’s story from Jesus is one that can make you mad on first reading! Who does this pharisee think he is silently judging the tax-collector in his heart like that? Well, to be completely honest, he’s just like everyone of us. All of us carry with us the sin of pride, thinking we’re better than others in a variety of ways. Our “thing behind the thing” today is a reminder that we’re actually not supposed to be “like other men” to use the phrase of the pharisee. We’re never to think ourselves better. We’re never to judge in our hearts or otherwise. We’re to instead live humble, Christ-centered lives, recognizing our sinfulness before God and more importantly, God’s amazing grace to us in Jesus who accepts sinful men and women like us!
