Today we are reading Matthew 4. In this chapter we read about the Temptation of Jesus and the Calling of His First Disciples. “While walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Immediately they left their nets and followed him. And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them. Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.” Matthew 4:18-22 ESV In this passage we see four men who dropped everything to follow Jesus. Three later became part of His “inner circle”—Peter, James and John. What about Andrew? Why was he not included? Andrew did continue on as a disciple and even died for his faith in Jesus. At any rate, we are all loved deeply by Jesus and are included in His royal household! How does inclusion in Jesus’ love and mercy impact your willingness to serve Him? What will you do today for Jesus? Pastor Tim
