Matthew 25

Today we are reading Matthew 25. In this chapter we read about Jesus teaching two parables (The Parable of the Ten Virgins and the Parable of the Talents) and then giving a description of The Judgement. The Parable of the Talents also speaks of the Judgement and challenges our thinking. “”For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted to them his property. To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away. He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and he made five talents more. So also he who had the two talents made two talents more. But he who had received the one talent went and dug in the ground and hid his master’s money.” Matthew‬ ‭25:14-18‬ ‭ESV‬‬ This parable is significant because it tells us about work that the different individuals perform. While it is clear that we are not saved by works but by Grace it is also clear that genuine faith results in Christian living—we live to love God and love our neighbors. Why is the measurement of work so prominent in this parable? What is the relationship between faith and good works? How would your works be measured? Have you buried your faith or have you “put it to work”? May the grace of God compel you to boldly demonstrate your faith. Pastor Tim
