Today we are reading Matthew 2. In this chapter we read about the visit of the Magi. The keyword for this chapter is “a-na-to-lay”. The definition is “rising of stars, then sunrise. The word for east means “from the rising” of the sun.” “Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”” Matthew 2:1-2 ESV The magi came from the east. They saw the star in the east. The sun rises in the east. To us the east is simply one of four directions on the compass. To the Israelites it may have meant more. Abraham came from the east and from him God made His chosen people. When you think of the east what comes to mind? As you watch the sunrise in the future, remember the joy of the magi as they followed the star from east to Jesus. May God fill you with joy as you follow Jesus and proclaim Him! Pastor Tim
