Today we are reading Matthew 1. In this chapter we read about the birth of Jesus. The keyword for this chapter is “gen-na-o”. The definition is “to be born, to be begotten”. This word is used 64 times in the New Testament and 20 times in the book of Matthew. “Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”” Matthew 1:18-21 ESV Think of your mother carrying you and then giving birth to you! Your birth was a special event in your family’s history! Imagine how marry felt as she carried Jesus and then gave birth to Him! How she must have loved Him! The truth is He loved her(and you and I) more. Jesus’ birth was the first part of God fulfilling His promise to save the world! May you remember Jesus’ birth every day as a demonstration of God’s love for you! Pastor Tim
