Today we are reading Mark 8. In this chapter we read about Jesus teaching His disciples and asking them “Who do people say that I am?” “And Jesus went on with his disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi. And on the way he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that I am?” And they told him, “John the Baptist; and others say, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.” And he asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered him, “You are the Christ.” And he strictly charged them to tell no one about him.”
Mark 8:27-30 ESV Why did Jesus ask them this question? Was He insecure wanting to know what people thought about Him? Was He worried that people were misunderstanding His message? Or, was it a teaching moment He used to establish His identity for His disciples? Peter, very typically, blurts out an answer. When Peter answers correctly, Jesus strongly affirms the truth. Jesus is the Christ! This is the only correct answer and every believer must answer the question correctly! Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah, the Son of God and the only Savior! Pastor Tim
