Mark 12

Today we are reading Mark 12. In this chapter we read about Jesus teaching at the Temple. The chapter concludes with the story of the widows mite.“And he sat down opposite the treasury and watched the people putting money into the offering box. Many rich people put in large sums. And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which make a penny. And he called his disciples to him and said to them, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.””  Mark‬ ‭12:41-44‬ ‭ESV‬‬ This story has always challenged me. How can this woman, who was living on the edge of survival, put in “all she had to live on”? Have you ever done that? While we always tithe and more, I can only remember once when I put in all I had. I was a college kid and I went to our chapel service at Concordia. The offering came and all I had was a ten dollar bill. It was just enough to have a pizza during some late night study session. I put it in. Later, I checked my mail and my grandmother had sent me a card with $20 in it! I know that for my lifetime God has always provided. How about you? How has God provided for you? Do you trust Him with your finances? May God bless you with a faith that is bigger than your financial fears! Pastor Tim
