Today we are reading Mark 1. In this chapter we read about the beginning of Jesus’ ministry. The keyword for this chapter is “eu-thus”. The definition is “immediately, at once, so then, this is a favorite word of Mark and is used 41 times in this Gospel.” “Passing alongside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” And immediately they left their nets and followed him. And going on a little farther, he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, who were in their boat mending the nets. And immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants and followed him.” Mark 1:16-20 ESV Why do you think Mark uses this word so frequently? When you immediately do something what does that indicate? This Gospel is actually thought to have been dictated to Mark by Peter. Think about what you know of Peter…why would “immediately” fit Peter’s personality? What can we learn from these examples connected to the word “immediately”? May God bless you with a clear and deliberate response to the Gospel! Pastor Tim
