Mark 1

Today we are reading Mark 1. In this chapter we read about the beginning of Jesus’ ministry. “In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”” Mark‬ ‭1‬:‭9‬-‭11‬ ‭ESV‬‬ The event of Jesus’ baptism seemed to be a turning point in His ministry. I have been to the location where this event took place. It is unremarkable. The Jordan River is a small muddy stream, overgrown with bushes. The region is desert and the surrounding soil is worthless for agriculture. What is remarkable is that God does extraordinary things in very ordinary places. He doesn’t choose the most impressive parts of His creation to reveal Himself. God chooses the ordinary—like us! May God do extraordinary things in you this day! Pastor Tim
