Today we are reading Luke 9. In this chapter we read about many events in Jesus ministry: sending out the twelve, Peter’s confession, the Transfiguration, the Feeding of the 5,000. The keyword for this chapter is “po-reu-o-mai”. The definition is “to continue on one’s journey, to pursue the journey”. “When the days drew near for him to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem. And he sent messengers ahead of him, who went and entered a village of the Samaritans, to make preparations for him. But the people did not receive him, because his face was set toward Jerusalem.” Luke 9:51-53 ESV Have you ever been so focused on the goal that the actual journey seems a mere formality? Why was your focus so intense? When we are focused like that it helps us not to get sidetracked. For Jesus, the goal was to die for us. His face was set on going to Jerusalem to be the sacrifice for our sins. It was very difficult for Him but His intense focus resulted in our salvation. Thank you Jesus for focusing on our desperate need for forgiveness! Pastor Tim
