Today we are reading Luke 11. In this chapter we read about Jesus teaching about prayer and a long ongoing war of words with the Pharisees and Teachers of the Law. “While Jesus was speaking, a Pharisee asked him to dine with him, so he went in and reclined at table. The Pharisee was astonished to see that he did not first wash before dinner. And the Lord said to him, “Now you Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside you are full of greed and wickedness. You fools! Did not he who made the outside make the inside also?” Luke 11:37-40 ESV As His opponents looked for an opportunity to accuse Jesus, He rebuked them and condemned them for their wickedness. Here he talks about superficial religiosity. The outward is just fluff—it’s what is inside that counts! How do your inner and outer expressions of faith compare? Would Jesus’ words apply to you? Why do you think the Pharisees were like that? May God bless you with the Holy Spirit so that His love dominates everything you are and everything you do! Pastor Tim
