Today we are reading Luke 1. In this chapter we read about the birth of Jesus. The keyword for this chapter is “e-pi-ski-ad-zo”. The definition is “to overshadow, to envelope in a shadow”. “And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God. And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. For nothing will be impossible with God.”” Luke 1:35-37 ESV Usually, when we use the word “overshadow” it refers to a secondary person being in the shadow of a more famous or obvious person. In this passage that again is true, but the glory of the Holy Spirit greatly enhances the role and identity of Mary. She is the bearer of the Christ-child. When we came to believe in Jesus, the Holy Spirit overshadowed us and created faith within us. How does Jesus’ overshadowing you enhance your role and identity? May the glory of God be revealed in you and through you. Pastor Tim
