John 17

Today we are reading John 17. In this chapter we read Jesus’ High Priestly Prayer. The keyword for this chapter is “ha-gi-ad-zo”. The definition is “to sanctify, to set apart and dedicate a person or thing for the service of God and to dedicate as a sacrifice.” “Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world.” John‬ ‭17:17-18‬ ‭In this context Jesus is praying for His disciples to be sanctified in the truth. His point is that they be sustained, guarded and strengthened in the truth of His word. This is the very reason we read the Bible every day. Every day the devil attacks us with the same strategy he used in the Garden of Eden. He attacks us with lies—“did God really say?”. If the enemy uses lies then we must be sanctified in the truth so that we may not lose our way spiritually. May God sanctify you in the truth today and every day! Pastor Tim
