Today we are reading John 1. In this chapter John describes the ministry of John the Baptist. “And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?” He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed, “I am not the Christ.” And they asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” And he answered, “No.” So they said to him, “Who are you? We need to give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?” He said, “I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ as the prophet Isaiah said.” The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” John 1:19-23, 29 ESV When John the Baptist came to prepare the way for Jesus the Messiah, he called people to repentance. Our sin is a barrier between us and God. When we sin we are rebelling and turning away from God. When we repent we are submitting and turning toward God. What barriers stand between you and God? How can you make sure you are prepared for the Second Coming of the Messiah? Pastor Tim
