Jeremiah 50

Today we are reading Jeremiah 50. In this chapter we read about God’s wrath to be poured out on Babylon. “”Israel is a hunted sheep driven away by lions. First the king of Assyria devoured him, and now at last Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has gnawed his bones. Therefore, thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I am bringing punishment on the king of Babylon and his land, as I punished the king of Assyria. I will restore Israel to his pasture, and he shall feed on Carmel and in Bashan, and his desire shall be satisfied on the hills of Ephraim and in Gilead. In those days and in that time, declares the Lord, iniquity shall be sought in Israel, and there shall be none, and sin in Judah, and none shall be found, for I will pardon those whom I leave as a remnant.” Jeremiah‬ ‭50:17-20‬ ‭ESV‬‬ We read in these verses that even mighty Babylon will be humbled and destroyed by God. The Israelites are at this moment slaves in Babylon, Assyria and Egypt. God is promising to bring them back to their own country. To me this means that God’s primary desire is to love and bless His people. It is only in response to their rebellion that He must punish them. How have you experienced God’s primary desire? How has God humbled you when you rebelled against Him? May God bless you to live a life that is pleasing to Him. Pastor Tim
