Today we are reading Jeremiah 41. In this chapter we read about the murder of governor Gedaliah. The Babylonians had appointed Gedaliah as governor And the servants of the former king came and murdered him.“In the seventh month, Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, son of Elishama, of the royal family, one of the chief officers of the king, came with ten men to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, at Mizpah. As they ate bread together there at Mizpah, Ishmael the son of Nethaniah and the ten men with him rose up and struck down Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, with the sword, and killed him, whom the king of Babylon had appointed governor in the land.” Jeremiah 41:1-2 ESV The servants of the defeated king despised the new governor. With misplaced patriotism they murdered many of their own countrymen. How has patriotism been used as an excuse to commit crimes in our time? What can we do to bring peace? May God work through you to make peace. Pastor Tim
