Today we are reading Isaiah 9. In this chapter we read in dramatic fashion about the destruction of Israel. Then we find a beautiful messianic prophecy describing the coming of Jesus our Savior. “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.” Isaiah 9:6-7 How profound are these words of hope amidst the graphic portrayal of Israel’s destruction! Consider this: when all the kings are wicked and each one comes to a violent ruinous end the Messiah reigns over a vast kingdom with prosperity and peace forever. These words inspired hope in the hearts of Isaiah’s audience. Our eternal deliverance will be no less dramatic and profound. May God inspire you to live with joy and anticipation of the eternal reign of Jesus in Heaven! Pastor Tim
