Today we are reading Isaiah 1. Isaiah was a Hebrew prophet who was believed to have lived about 700 years before the birth of Jesus Christ. Born in Jerusalem, Israel, he was said to have found his calling as a prophet when he saw a vision in the year of King Uzziah’s death. Isaiah prophesized the coming of the Messiah Jesus Christ. So, what were the people of Israel like 2,700 years ago? In some ways the people were similar to us. They struggled with sin—particularly the sin of idolatry or worshipping false gods. As you read about this struggle, how does God feel about idolatry? How do you struggle with idolatry? Chapter one also speaks about repentance and forgiveness (v.18). What does God promise to do when His people repent and turn away from their sin? As an added point of study, find a map of Israel and the surrounding countries from the time of Isaiah. Have a great day as you serve the Lord Jesus! Pastor Tim
