Today we are reading Hebrews 8. In this chapter we read about how Jesus is our High Priest of a better covenant. The keyword for this chapter is “pa-lai-o-o”. The definition is “to declare or treat as old or obsolete.” “By calling this covenant “new,” he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and outdated will soon disappear.” Hebrews 8:13 NIV The word obsolete is used to describe a variety of things like technology etc. Here it is used to describe the old covenant where God’s people were required to follow many rules in order to receive His blessings. Our relationship with God is based on His grace. So, your efforts to please God are not to remove your guilt but to thank Him for His grace. This new covenant will never become obsolete. Pastor Tim
