Hebrews 7

Today we are reading Hebrews 7. In this chapter we see Jesus compared with the mysterious Melchizedek. “For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, and to him Abraham apportioned a tenth part of everything. He is first, by translation of his name, king of righteousness, and then he is also king of Salem, that is, king of peace. He is without father or mother or genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but resembling the Son of God he continues a priest forever.” ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭7:1-3‬ ‭ESV‬‬ This Melchizedek is a figure briefly mentioned in the Old Testament after Abram rescues his nephew Lot (Genesis 14). His name is a name that could be used to describe Jesus: King of Salem (Salem means peace) and King of Righteousness (that is what Melchizedek means). In Jesus we receive peace with God and peace that surpasses all comprehension. In Jesus we are made/declared righteous by His blood shed for our sins on the cross. Which is most precious to you—peace or righteousness? May God use you to bring people to Jesus—our Prince of Peace. Pastor Tim
