Today we are reading Hebrews 5. In this chapter we read about the role of the high priest and how Jesus is our high priest. The keyword for this chapter is “ka-le-o”. The definition is “to call”. “And no one takes this honor for himself, but only when called by God, just as Aaron was.” Hebrews 5:4 ESV This concept is all about God. God calls the priest and the called priest serves God. In the time when this letter was written, there were families fighting politically to control and elect the high priest. Human beings were calling the priest and not God. The result was that the people were lead by uncalled priests who were corrupt and did not serve God faithfully. Jesus was called by God and served in perfect obedience as our high priest. We apply this same concept to our pastors and church workers. They must be called by God. The call process uses prayer and seeks direction from God. All God’s people are to pray and vote. Their decision is regarded as God’s decision. May God bless you to pray for those who lead and teach us the Christian faith. Pastor Tim
