Today we are reading Hebrews 13. In this chapter we read about the author’s concluding comments and greetings. The keyword for this chapter is “pei-tho”. The definition is “to be persuaded, to obey, to listen to, to comply with, to yield to.” “Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.”
Hebrews 13:17 ESV This is an interesting word for the author to choose near the end of his letter. We are all called by God to obey Him and His Word. What about when the Bible says things that conflict with your opinions? Obey. What if I have good reasons not to forgive someone? Obey. What if I don’t love people who are different than me? Obey. What if my boss is unfair? Obey. Our circumstances do not create a loophole for us to be disobedient. How are you challenged to obey God and to obey your leaders? Pastor Tim
