Today we are reading Haggai 1. In this chapter we read about Haggai’s challenging the Judeans to rebuild the Temple. The time period is 520 BC and some of the exiles have returned from captivity in Babylon/Persia. “”Thus says the Lord of hosts: Consider your ways. Go up to the hills and bring wood and build the house, that I may take pleasure in it and that I may be glorified, says the Lord. You looked for much, and behold, it came to little. And when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why? declares the Lord of hosts. Because of my house that lies in ruins, while each of you busies himself with his own house.” Haggai 1:7-9 ESV The people have returned after being freed from their slavery. Their first concern was to care for their homes, property and families. As a result, they neglected the Temple and their God. Now the Temple stands in ruins and God speaks to the people through Haggai. When you put God first, everything else falls in it’s proper place. The people responded to God’s call to rebuild the Temple. What is God calling you to do? How are you putting God first? How has God blessed you for putting Him first? Pastor Tim
