Habakkuk 2

Today we are reading Habakkuk 2. In this chapter we read about how God supplies the vision for the prophet but that an idol can do nothing. “”What profit is an idol when its maker has shaped it, a metal image, a teacher of lies? For its maker trusts in his own creation when he makes speechless idols! Woe to him who says to a wooden thing, Awake; to a silent stone, Arise! Can this teach? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in it. But the Lord is in his holy temple; let all the earth keep silence before him.””
‭‭Habakkuk‬ ‭2:18-20‬ ‭ESV‬‬ In the days of Habakkuk (600 B.C.) idols were common. People worshiped them and trusted in them to give them help. Today we do not carve or shape objects into idols but we do make idols out of things hoping they will make us happy. Things like our careers, possessions, money, status, hobbies, children and grandchildren—can all occupy too much of our hearts and crowd God out. Then, along comes a virus and all our idols are threatened. But God is not threatened. The One True God is not threatened by anything. He is our rock—the rock of our salvation. May you worship the One True God today with all your heart! Pastor Tim
