Today we are reading Genesis 22. In this chapter we are reading about God calling Abraham to sacrifice his only son, Isaac. “After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”” Genesis 22:1-2 ESV After his miraculous birth it seems very cruel for God to tell Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac. What was the point? It was common for the pagans of that land to sacrifice their children to a pagan god. Was God testing Abraham to see if he would act like they do? Or, was God just testing Abraham to see if he would obey Him? Are you willing to obey God no matter what? What a challenge! Somehow, Abraham managed to walk the steps of obedience right up until the last moment. Wow! May you be inspired by all that God did through Abraham. Pastor Tim
