Today we are reading Galatians 4. In this chapter we read about slavery to the law. “Formerly, when you did not know God, you were enslaved to those that by nature are not gods. But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how can you turn back again to the weak and worthless elementary principles of the world, whose slaves you want to be once more? So, brothers, we are not children of the slave but of the free woman.” Galatians 4:8-9, 31 ESV Slavery is a horrible thing. It seems strange and inhumane to us. Yet, for much of mankind’s history, slavery was a normal progression at the conclusion of war. The powerful and wealthy often had slaves. This was never by God’s design. Today we have employers who can seem like slave masters at times. For those in positions of authority we must be extremely careful to exercise our authority in God-pleasing ways.
