Today we are reading 2 Samuel 7. In this chapter we read about David’s desire to build a Temple for God. “Now when the king lived in his house and the Lord had given him rest from all his surrounding enemies, the king said to Nathan the prophet, “See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells in a tent.” And Nathan said to the king, “Go, do all that is in your heart, for the Lord is with you.” But that same night the word of the Lord came to Nathan, “Go and tell my servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord: Would you build me a house to dwell in? I have not lived in a house since the day I brought up the people of Israel from Egypt to this day, but I have been moving about in a tent for my dwelling.” 2 Samuel 7:1-6 ESV David reflected on the comfort and luxury he had given himself—a house of cedar! Then he came up with the idea of building a “house” for God. After all, the pagan people built temples for their pagan gods. This idea of David’s was not God’s idea. God spoke through the prophet Nathan and corrected David. Have you ever needed correction? Did you have an idea that was logical or made sense to you but later found out it was not God’s plan? God’s ways are higher than our ways. Listen for His voice. It will be unmistakable. Pastor Tim
