2 Samuel 3

Today we are reading 2 Samuel 3. In this chapter we read about the protracted war between the house of David and the house of Saul. “There was a long war between the house of Saul and the house of David. And David grew stronger and stronger, while the house of Saul became weaker and weaker. And sons were born to David at Hebron: his firstborn was Amnon, of Ahinoam of Jezreel; and his second, Chileab, of Abigail the widow of Nabal of Carmel; and the third, Absalom the son of Maacah the daughter of Talmai king of Geshur; and the fourth, Adonijah the son of Haggith; and the fifth, Shephatiah the son of Abital; and the sixth, Ithream, of Eglah, David’s wife. These were born to David in Hebron.” ‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭3‬:‭1‬-‭5‬ ‭ESV‬‬ As David ruled in Hebron there was a constant state of war. It was customary, but not God-pleasing, for a king to marry daughters of other leaders to consolidate power. In this context, the military leader for the opposition house of Saul, Abner Ben Ner, comes to David to form an alliance and make him king over all Israel. Have you ever been in a constant state of conflict? What did you do? Did you make any network connections to strengthen your position? Did you do anything that was displeasing to God? May God give you everything you need in your time of difficulty. Pastor Tim
