2 Samuel 18

Today we are reading 2 Samuel 18. In this chapter we read about the death of Absalom. “And the king ordered Joab and Abishai and Ittai, “Deal gently for my sake with the young man Absalom.” And all the people heard when the king gave orders to all the commanders about Absalom. And the king was deeply moved and went up to the chamber over the gate and wept. And as he went, he said, “O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! Would I had died instead of you, O Absalom, my son, my son!”” ‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭18:5, 33‬ ‭ESV‬‬ This chapter records the tragic death of David’s son Absalom. Absalom has staged a coup to take the kingdom from his father. As they send their armies into battle David gives instructions to his commanders to deal gently with his wayward son. They do the opposite. They kill Absalom and the news breaks David’s heart. How have you tried to protect your family members or friends from the consequences of their sins? When people sin they choose a path that includes a lot of pain. We can’t prevent that pain but we can walk with them through the valley. May God use you to guide the wanders home. Pastor Tim
