Today we are reading 2 Samuel 12. In this chapter we read about Nathan the prophet confronting David regarding his sin. “Why have you despised the word of the Lord, to do what is evil in his sight? You have struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and have taken his wife to be your wife and have killed him with the sword of the Ammonites. Now therefore the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised me and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.’ David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.” And Nathan said to David, “The Lord also has put away your sin; you shall not die. Nevertheless, because by this deed you have utterly scorned the Lord, the child who is born to you shall die.”” 2 Samuel 12:9-10, 13-14 ESV Notice how Nathan describes David’s sin. “You despised the word of the Lord” and “you have utterly scorned the Lord”. This story shows us that even the glorious King David struggled with sin. It also shows us that even when we receive forgiveness, God does not necessarily remove the consequences of our sins. We still have to navigate the wreckage we have caused. The birth of Solomon is proof, however, that God is merciful and can bless us again after we have repented. How has this been true in your life? May God God bless you and restore you! Pastor Tim
